St John of God Ballarat Hospital is proud to announce the commencement of its 2024 graduate nursing program, marking a significant milestone with the largest cohort of graduate nurses to date. Last week 32 dedicated graduate nurses embarked on their professional journey, reflecting the hospital's commitment to enhancing health care services in the Ballarat community.

This year's program is divided into two specialised areas: the Pathways to Practice graduate nurse program and the Pathways to Practice graduate perioperative nurse program. These programs are designed to blend learning with practical bedside experience, enabling our graduate nurses to deliver exceptional patient care.

Pathways to Practice graduate nurse program

The program is structured to provide exposure to various medical settings. Participants will undergo two 6-month rotations across different wards, including surgical, oncology, medical, and potentially our Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit. This year, 15 registered nurses and nine enrolled nurses will be involved in this program.

Pathways to Practice graduate perioperative nurse program

Tailored for those with an interest in perioperative nursing, this program offers rotations through critical roles such as scrub scout, anaesthetics and recovery. Eight registered nurses have started this program.

A welcoming environment for professional growth

Josh Stott, Quality & Development Manager, expressed his enthusiasm for the new cohort.

"Welcoming this year's graduates, our largest group yet, is not just about numbers. It's about the fresh perspectives, energy and commitment they bring to our hospital,” he said.

“Their journey is a vital part of our mission to provide outstanding care, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on our patients and the Ballarat community."
