The 2023 Graduate Nursing Program is off and running, with 29 nurses having started on February 13.

This is the largest intake of graduate nurses the hospital has ever accepted, which helps to support the growing needs of healthcare in Ballarat.

The graduate program is broken down into two areas, the Pathways to Practice Graduate Program, and Pathways to Practice Perioperative Graduate Program.

The programs incorporate both online learning and bedside learning, so graduate nurses can apply their knowledge at the bedside when caring for patients.

Pathways to Practice Graduate Program

This program involves nurses completing two 6 month rotations through the wards, which could include the surgical ward, oncology, or medical wards. They may also have a rotation through our Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit.

Of the 29 total nurses, 20 Registered Nurses and 2 Enrolled Nurses will be joining this program.

Pathways to Practice Perioperative Graduate Program

This program involves nurses rotating through multiple roles, which including Scrub Scout, Anaesthetics, and Recovery.

Of the 29 total nurses, 7 nurses will be joining this program. 1 of these graduate nurses will also be completing an optional Graduate Certificate in Nursing Practice (Peri-operative).

Quality & Development Manager, Josh Stott, is excited to have some new faces through the hospital.

“It’s always great to have a new batch of [graduate] nurses starting at the hospital full of energy and excitement. This year is particularly special with such a large group starting with us.”
