Learning Outcomes

  1. Differentiate HFpEF from HFrEF by identifying key signs, symptoms, and risk factors, and apply this knowledge to interpret echocardiogram findings, make appropriate referrals, and develop evidence-based heart failure management plans.
  2. Determine the appropriate use of cardiac imaging, specifically distinguishing when to request a Coronary Artery Calcium Score versus a CT Coronary Angiogram, and identifying the most suitable investigation for different clinical scenarios.
  3. Select and apply appropriate rate-control and rhythm-control therapies, and describe the clinical contexts in which each pharmacological strategy is indicated.
  4. Explain cardiology referral pathways, including urgent referral for acute chest pain requiring immediate assessment and non-urgent referral for specialist evaluation and ongoing management, as available through SJGBH Cardiac Assessment Unit.
