Dr Belyansky is an internationally recognised expert in the field of abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR) and complex laparoscopic and robotic hernia repair.

St John of God Geelong Hospital CEO Stephen Roberts welcomed Dr Belyansky’s visit and the chance it gave doctors to learn from him through surgeon mentoring and masterclass workshops.

"The St John of God Geelong Hospital's robotic surgery program has been operating for over two years with the team developing skills and capability across a range of specialties including urology, gynaecology, ear, nose and throat and general surgery,” he said.

“We hope Dr Belyansky’s visit will introduce other innovative techniques to the list of robotic procedures offered in Geelong.”

Dr Belyansky is currently a director of the AWR Program and Chief of General Surgery at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland, in the USA.

He has a special interest in minimally invasive approaches to AWR and has described and published several innovative laparoscopic abdominal reconstructive techniques.

He is a strong advocate of robotic technology and his research is focused on its use for abdominal wall reconstruction.

During his tour of Australia Dr Belyansky is assisting surgeons in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Geelong in da Vinci robotic abdominal wall reconstruction and other complex da Vinci robotic hernia repair procedures through speaking engagements, surgeon mentoring, and masterclass workshops.
