NAIDOC Week celebrated at Bendigo

St John of God Bendigo Hospital was very excited to undertake a number of activities planned to celebrate NAIDOC Week, including an Art Show showcasing two local Aboriginal artists and a community lunch.

The art show, which will be running from 3 July to 21 July, is displaying work from local artists Gabby Gamble and Robyn Davis.

The artists’ work includes a variety of mediums in a range of styles including furniture and sculpture. All the artwork in now on display in the new refurbished hospital Atrium with most pieces for sale.

Today NAIDOC week was celebrated at the Hospital with a community lunch, in which the two artists attended.

Guest speaker Tashara Roberts, representing the Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group spoke about the LAECG’s current projects, which includes a homework space for local aboriginal students.

Director of Mission, Denis Byrne said that NAIDOC week was an important week for St John of God Health Care.

"Each year we look forward to celebrating NAIDOC week at the hospital. This year we were very pleased to hear about the projects and vision that LAECG have for Bendigo," he said.

Lunch was a bush tucker themed two-course lunch, with all funds going to support the establishment of the LAECG’s Aboriginal Homework Group.
