After acting in the role for the past five months, Maria steps into the role with a wealth of experience and a clear vision for the hospital's future.

Maria has a background in nursing and clinical operations, and has been a pivotal part of the hospital's leadership team since 2012.

She has served as the hospital’s Director of Nursing for the past 11 years, and has stepped into acting CEO roles at St John of God Bendigo Hospital and St John of God Bunbury Hospital over that time.

St John of God Health Care Chief Operating Officer Ben Edwards said Maria’s extensive experience within the organisation made her the ideal leader for the next chapter at St John of God Ballarat Hospital.

“Maria is well-placed to lead St John of God Ballarat Hospital over the coming period which will be an exciting time for the hospital and community,” he said.

“We have made a very substantial investment to expand St John of God Ballarat Hospital and these new facilities and capability will provide great opportunities to enhance our care in this region.

The hospital redevelopment, which is set to open in the second half of 2024, features a new state-of-the-art catheter lab, a new intensive care unit, additional theatres, a new 30-bed inpatient ward, and a modern Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD).

St John of God Ballarat Hospital CEO Maria Noonan said these enhancements would significantly bolster the hospital's capacity to provide top-tier medical and surgical care to the Ballarat community.

"It is a privilege to be named CEO of St John of God Ballarat Hospital. I am eager to lead our hospital into a future where we continue to deliver exceptional care and support to our community,” she said.

“We are focused on providing the highest standards of health care which drives every decision we make, ensuring that we remain a beacon of hope and healing.

"These new facilities will allow us to offer an expansion of our offerings and care, reinforcing our dedication to excellence in health care for Ballarat. I am excited to oversee this final phase in the project.”
