On arrival at the Yacht Club, clients spent a short time getting to know the Soldier On staff as well as the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club members who give their time, knowledge and facilities for the program.

The volunteers are skillful and calm and know exactly when people are comfortable enough to get out of their comfort zones, allowing them to sail the boat around the Pittwater under their guidance.

One of our clients expressed gratitude for the experience stating their initial feelings of fear, angst and inadequacy at the thought of being in a new environment, learning new skills and doing something they hadn’t done before disappeared on arrival as they were warmly welcomed and instantly made to feel at ease in their environment.

The client said:

"This activity was more than just exciting sailing. It gave me an enormous lift in my confidence, my abilities and my faith and trust in others simply by giving our crew faith, trust and skills to control the boat."

"Overall this was a fantastic day and I want to thank Soldier On and RPAYC for contributing so positively to my recovery."

After the sailing experience Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club provide lunch and an opportunity to reflect on the sailing experience. Clients are also invited to return and continue involvement with them through their learn to sail and crew programs.
