On Wednesday, 21 June, caregivers on Ward 3D at the hospital celebrated a key moment as the first Kyra Flow journey board for an inpatient ward went live. As a core component of the hospital’s digital transformation, the new journey boards on Ward 3D replace the existing hand-written whiteboards, with dual 65-inch monitors that provide caregivers near real-time, at-a-glance visibility of all 30 beds on the ward.

With the journey boards, part of a suite of strategic information technology initiatives across the hospital, St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals Chief Executive Officer Paul Dyer explains that this new technology will bring a multitude of benefits.

“These new boards will increase efficiencies and minimise the time that the existing labour intensive whiteboard process takes. All wards in the hospital will eventually be using the boards that will enable caregivers to have live tracking of capacity across the hospital and will assist them in making important patient flow decisions. With the new journey boards, there is less time spent on administrative tasks which allows caregivers to focus on what is most important and that is patient care”.

Once fully installed, the system will update bed availability across the hospital in real-time. This will reduce waiting times for those needing a bed as well as expedite the discharge process for those whose stay in the hospital is coming to an end.

The Journeyboards will continue to be rolled out across wards over the coming months.
