Parent education

Parents often need a wide range of support and guidance when it comes to preparing for the arrival of their new baby, particularly if it is their first.

Services we offer include parent education classes, maternity unit tours, booking-in clinics and telephone support.

Classes are hosted by our experienced midwives, who are focused on providing a relaxed and safe environment to learn, share and ask questions. Some classes may involve other health professionals qualified to speak on a particular topic.

Information is presented on many different aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and early parenting.

Maternity tours

Due to COVID-19 our in-person tours are currently on hold.

We also offer weekly guided tours run by our maternity midwives to provide you an opportunity to see our maternity service and discuss any questions you may have as expectant parents.

Our maternity classes

Due to COVID-19 our in-person classes are currently on hold.

We have designed a range of classes to help you during your pregnancy and after the birth of your baby.

Antenatal and post-natal classes are an important part of your pregnancy experience and are highly recommended by obstetricians, paediatricians, physiotherapists and other healthcare practitioners.

Our childbirth workshops comprise one physiotherapy and four midwife sessions. The classes are a great way for first time parents to learn about pregnancy, childbirth and how to care for their baby, while sharing experiences with other couples.

You also become familiar with the hospital and will meet some of the midwives who will care for you when you have your baby

The classes cover antenatal care, preparation for birth, breastfeeding and early parenting.

Couples are encouraged to start classes between 24 and 28 weeks' gestation. .

Childbirth workshops are covered by your health insurance. Self funded maternity patients can attend our classes at a cost of $100.

Refresher workshops are also available for parents who already have children. These sessions will cover up-to-date labour, feeding and settling techniques, and the expectations you have for your growing family.

Our grandparent workshops act as refresher courses for new grandparents with a focus on providing up-to-date feeding and settling techniques, presented by an experienced midwife and grandmother.

These workshops offer grandparents advice on how best to support your new family unit.

Attendance is by gold coin donation, which is put towards buying items for our maternity unit such as partner beds, change tables and other items for the comfort of our maternity patients.

Our physiotherapy pregnancy class shows you important core strengthening exercises to help you maintain a healthy pregnancy and smooth recovery from childbirth.

The physiotherapy workout is specifically designed for your changing body and concentrates on: pelvic floor, upper and lower body, abdominals, back and stomach.

Led by our physiotherapist who specialises in women's health, you will get the maximum physical benefit without stressing or straining your body at any stage of your pregnancy.
