Designed to improve medication management, Pyxis will act as a one-stop-shop for storing, dispensing and recording the use of medications in operating theatres at St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals.

St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals CEO Paul Dyer said that the hospital is always looking for opportunities to improve clinical processes and enhance patient care.

“In order to improve the management and security of scheduled medications in our operating theatres, St John of God Health Care is committed to implementing the latest technology in electronic drug management systems.”

The hospital deployed 12 Pyxis anaesthetic stations - one per theatre - and two Pyxis medication stations.

Pyxis is integrated with the hospital’s clinical systems and will help clinicians to safely and efficiently administer medications before, during and after surgery. It will also create a standardised medication workflow and increase visibility of medications for inventory and auditing purposes.

Equipped with biometric (finger print) technology, the stations feature several different drawer configurations to suit clinical requirements.

“We are incredibly proud of our theatre team, led by Perioperative Services Manager Stuart Blinman, as well as our anaesthetic department and project team for advocating for this much needed improvement,” Mr Dyer said.
