Training and development
At St John of God Murdoch Hospital, we offer valuable training and career development opportunities for doctors, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals.
We prioritise caregiver development through our specialised nursing discovery program, which enables nurses to develop a foundation of skills to work in specialised areas. This is offered in intensive care, emergency medicine, theatre and cancer care.

Volunteering at St John of God Murdoch Hospital
We currently have over 100 volunteers in our hospital ranging from 19 to 86 years old that support our clinical caregivers and assist patients and families throughout the hospital.
What can a volunteer do at Murdoch?
Volunteer tasks may include:
- visiting and reading to patients
- waiting with relatives
- running small errands for patients, such as buying newspapers or toiletries
- providing directions to hospital facilities and services
- gardening support
- identifying and escalating any issues to the shift coordinator or nurse manager.
Essential volunteer requirements
Please see what we are looking for from a volunteer below:
- over 18 years of age
- friendly, helpful and mature
- have the time to commit at least 12 months to a volunteering role with ongoing reliable attendance
- be willing to complete a short generic healthcare related training module online
- be prepared to undergo a National Police check and agree to hospital policies and procedures.
