The new menu is transforming the patient dining experience in the hospital, with patients now able to order from a wide range of premium meals, made from high quality ingredients, when they want.

St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital Chief Executive Officer Vanessa Unwin said it was exciting to see patients enjoy the new menu items.

“It is absolutely awesome to see patients enjoy some of the most popular items like the beef burger and grilled salmon dishes,” Vanessa said.

“They are served to the room hot and when patients are hungry so we are seeing so many more plates come back completely empty and really satisfied patients.

“Food plays an important role in patients’ recovery in addition to now being one of the highlights of our hospital stay.”

Room service is available to all inpatients at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital including maternity patients and their partners in boarding.

St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital Manager Catering Services Scott Sherratt said the menu items cater for every patient.

“The menu caters for patients who are on restricted diets due to clinical requirements as well as people who have allergies or intolerances, so that they can enjoy food that will help support their recovery,” Scott said.

“Our catering team have worked very hard to bring room service to life at our hospital so we are thrilled to be offering these delicious meals to patients.”

The introduction of room service is also helping reduce food waste, which is expected to be reduced by up to 35 per cent.

“When we developed this new room service dining, our complete focus was on what patients want and expect from a modern hospital experience,” St John of God Health Care National Room Service Project Manager Scott Horn said.

“A really pleasing benefit of this has been the substantial reduction in food waste. This has driven us to continue rolling this out at all St John of God hospitals. It is not only good for patients, it is better for our environment and our organisation.”
