The national day of action is a timely reminder to check in with each other and ask ‘Are you OK?’

As part of the day’s activities, the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety Team hosted lunch for caregivers to connect, reflect and learn about the prevalence of mental illness in Australia and the support services available.

Night-shift caregivers were treated to ‘self-care goodie bags’, which included chocolate, tea/coffee, a conversation starter kit and a variety of other wellness resources.

St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Vanessa Unwin, said the day served as a timely reminder to engage, listen and spend time with loved ones.

“After the challenges of the past two years, it’s been particularly special to enjoy lunch together and reflect on the importance of checking in.”

“While asking, ‘Are you ok?’, may seem like a small act, it can lead to a life-changing conversation.”

“Our caregivers are renowned for their compassion and empathy, and today was no different.”
