Anne-Marie, an Occupational Therapist, was nominated for her work as a Health and Safety Representative and in particular for her ability to engage colleagues in a pragmatic approach to managing risk.

She led projects at the hospital that had positive outcomes for patients and caregivers including: manual handling, review of the home visitor policy, safer transfer of patients to radiology and identifying safety issues.

Anne-Marie previously won the St John of God Health Care Tony Howarth Award and was surprised to take out the national award with the Australian Institute of Health and Safety.

“It was an honour just to be nominated, after also winning the Tony Howarth Award in last year but to win was definitely a huge surprise, she said.

“I love my job as an Occupational Therapist and being a Health and Safety Representative is a natural fit with my training and experience.”

“Working as part of a team to assess the person, occupation and environment is important as it gives me the ability to provide a safer space for patients and caregivers.”
