GP support services

The hospital has a dedicated caregiver who is responsible for making sure the local community has information and access to the comprehensive range of services at St John of God Geelong Hospital and can assist with:

  • optimising communication of information relating to services and referral processes for GPs and their patients
  • facilitating information transfers between the hospital, accredited specialists and general practice
  • GP education
  • personalised onsite consultation service with GPs to provide one-on-one updates on the hospital, visiting specialists and services
  • providing a reliable conduit for receiving feedback on areas for improvement.

Rapid Access Endoscopy Service

GPs and specialist doctors can refer directly to the St John of God Geelong Hospital Rapid Access Endoscopy Service.

We accept GP and specialist referrals to this service. To refer your patient, complete and fax the Rapid Access referral to the fax number below.

To ensure appropriate and timely triage, include all demographic and clinical details as well as relevant investigation results. Please be advised of the updated Rapid Access Referral Guidelines.

Accreditation at St John of God Geelong Hospital

To admit, treat and/or operate on patients at St John of God Geelong Hospital, all medical professionals must be accredited and hold clinical privileges.

How to become accredited

Should you wish to apply for accreditation please contact our credentialing officer by email stating your AHPRA number, speciality and contact details to [email protected]

An invitation to apply to be accredited in your speciality will be sent to you from our Equifax accreditation system.

On completion of your application, it will be forwarded and reviewed by an expert reviewer and the hospital's Scope of Practice Committee. You will be notified in writing of the outcome of your application.

By-laws and code of conduct

All accredited medical practitioners and service providers are expected to adhere to our code of conduct and practitioner by-laws. These documents govern the relationship between St John of God Health Care and its accredited practitioners, and set expectations for professional conduct, patient safety and the delivery of quality care at our hospitals and services. Practitioners will receive both documents following successful credentialing.
