St John of God Bunbury Hospital appoints new Medical Advisory Committee Chair

St John of God Bunbury Hospital has announced Dr Brendan O’Dea as its new Medical Advisory Committee Chair.

Dr O’Dea has a long association with St John of God Bunbury Hospital. He joined the hospital as a physiotherapist in 2006, before becoming the Allied Health Manager for two years prior to commencing his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Western Australia. Medical Advisory Committee Chair Dr Brendan O'Dea

Dr O’Dea, who also holds a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, returned to Bunbury in 2016 after completing his studies and has been working as a General Practitioner locally since. 

His interests include family medicine, musculoskeletal and sports injuries, minor skin procedures and shared antenatal care.  

He also works as a surgical assistant to a local orthopaedic surgeon at St John of God Bunbury Hospital.

St John of God Bunbury Hospital Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Williams said he was thrilled to have someone of Dr O’Dea’s calibre and experience leading the hospital’s Medical Advisory Committee Chair.

“Dr O’Dea has a long-term commitment to the south west community and his experience and expertise will be invaluable to guiding our hospital’s care for the region,” Mr Williams said.

“Dr O’Dea will work closely with our hospital’s management team to ensure high quality, compassionate and contemporary care continues to be provided to patients from our growing community.

“His role will involve chairing the Medical Advisory Committee which has responsibility for accrediting new and existing doctors who wish to work at our hospital, as well as working alongside our patient experience and clinical excellence teams.”
