To accommodate one of Melbourne’s fastest growing communities, the hospital relocated to a brand new purpose-built facility with expanded services in 2018. Our hospital continues to grow and expand along with our highly skilled team of caregivers.

St John of God Berwick Hospital is situated centrally within Berwick’s health and education precinct, within walking distance to public transport.

Caregivers have access to subsided, undercover parking and the ability to order low cost chef-designed meals from the hospital kitchen, with payment deducted directly from their wages. There is also a café onsite where barista coffee and gourmet meals can be purchased. Hospital-wide luncheons that commemorate special events from sporting and culture to faith and fun are a regular occurrence throughout the year.

Volunteering at St John of God Berwick Hospital

St John of God Berwick Hospital has an extremely supportive community, and our volunteers hold an important role within it.

We have more than 100 volunteers who support our 3 hospitals located in south east Melbourne, with many generously supporting our caregivers and visitors for several years.

Volunteers may choose from a variety of roles including:

  • Meet and greet
  • ward based duties
  • patient-facing duties in departments
  • administration support and more.

All our volunteers will undergo thorough training prior to starting with us and will be led by our Volunteer Coordinator who will provide support, communication and guidance to you.

Volunteer requirements

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
  • Support St John of God Health Care’s culture, Mission and Values.
  • Participate in all relevant induction and ongoing training programs.
  • Be able to provide a working with children’s check and a police check.

Essential volunteer requirements

Please see what we are looking for from a volunteer below:

  • over 18 years of age
  • friendly, helpful and mature
  • have the time to commit at least 12 months to a volunteering role with ongoing reliable attendance
  • be willing to complete a short generic healthcare related training module online
  • be prepared to undergo a National Police check and agree to hospital policies and procedures.
