Clinical Educator, Sheeba Abraham feels truly blessed to be one of 21 caregivers awarded The Sister Bridget Clancy Scholarship for the Empowerment of Women in 2025.

“I feel immensely grateful and blessed to be part of an organisation that values and promotes women's higher education”, Sheeba said.

The Sister Bridget Clancy Scholarship for the Empowerment of Women through Education, sponsored by the Sisters of St John of God, was established in 2022 to mark the 150th anniversary of the Sister's foundation. The scholarship supports caregivers undertaking or intending to undertake undergraduate or postgraduate studies in leadership development or fields related to women’s health.

Sheeba, who has worked as a clinical educator in the rehabilitation wards at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital for four years will be using the scholarship to pursue a Graduate Diploma in Health Professions Education at Australian Catholic University.

“My involvement in clinical education has provided me the opportunity to learn about current education trends and evidence-based practices,” she said.
“It has allowed me to work collaboratively with a range of diverse teams to improve patient care.”

In 2024, Sheeba was recognised for her unwavering dedication to education when she was named Caregiver of the Year at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital. Her commitment to best-practice training and upskilling has empowered fellow caregivers to deliver high-quality patient care.

“I am deeply passionate about providing excellent, patient-centered care by equipping my colleagues with the knowledge and skills they need to excel,” Sheeba said.

Now, with her further studies, she aims to deepen her understanding of learning theories and their application in clinical settings.

“I applied for this scholarship because I want to integrate effective educational strategies into real-world healthcare environments, ensuring caregivers receive training tailored to their needs,” she added.

The St John of God Health Care scholarship programs are designed to support the career development and professional growth of our caregivers, which in turn strengthens our ability to provide high quality, safe, compassionate care to our patients, clients and community.

Scholarship recipients are announced each year on March 8 to coincide with St John of God Day celebrations.
