Bibiana Lee, Senior Physiotherapist, has been named the 2020 St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospital Caregiver of the Year.

St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals CEO Michael Hogan said I am delighted that Bibiana has been awarded our Caregiver of the Year Award, as she embodies what it means to provide ‘whole person care’ that is transformative for her patients.

Bibiana said she felt very humbled and thankful to receive the award among so many exceptional nominees.

The Caregiver of the Year Award is selected from the Caregiver of the Month winners over the past 12 months.

Michael said Bibiana was originally awarded as one of our Caregivers of the Month for the special way she considers the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients through her work.

“She was also recognised for the way she has grown the pulmonary rehabilitation program at St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals. Because of this program, patients who have been too fearful to leave their houses because of their condition have been able to lead more active lives,” he said.

Bibiana said I am already very thankful that I get to come to work and do what I love doing with people who aspire to provide the best possible care in the best possible way for our patients, but to be recognised for the work that I do, that is very humbling.

“The impact of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program has on patients’ lives is both measureable and immeasurable,” she said.

“Our results are showing that patients can walk further, have less breathlessness and have better quality of life through the program. We are also seeing some fantastic immeasurable results of patients returning to live their lives again.

“We are seeing patients who thought they were dying and housebound, now going on holidays, regularly catching up with friends and leading more active lives.”

The Caregiver of the Month nominations can be submitted by patients, visitors and caregivers and is based on demonstrating strong evidence of bringing the organisation’s Values to life.
