These documents govern the relationship between St John of God Health Care and its accredited practitioners, and set expectations for professional conduct, patient safety and the delivery of quality care at our hospitals and services. Practitioners will receive both documents following successful credentialing.

The hospital has strong partnerships with local universities and provides training to medical students, junior doctors and doctors-in-training through the Specialist Training Program.
For medical students, we offer education and training opportunities through the Ballarat Rural Clinical School, an innovative partnership between The University of Notre Dame Australia’s School of Medicine Sydney and St John of God Health Care.
For junior doctors, we offer intern positions in emergency medicine and general medicine in partnership with the East Grampians Health Service.
We also participate in the Commonwealth Government’s Specialist Training Program and welcome medical registrars from the Western Hospital for clinical rotations.
Robotic assisted technology at St John of God Ballarat Hospital
St John of God Ballarat Hospital is equipped with 3 cutting-edge orthopaedic robots designed to enhance precision in orthopaedic procedures.
These robots, each with their own unique strengths and capabilities, are revolutionising various orthopaedic procedures, including total and partial knee and hip replacements. They are designed to offer increased accuracy, enabling you to perform at your best and deliver exceptional care to your patient’s.
Mako SmartRobotics™
Mako SmartRobotics™ is designed to provide more accuracy in a patient’s total knee, total hip or partial knee replacement compared to manual surgery. It all starts with a CT scan that creates a 3D image of a patient’s unique anatomy.
This information allows surgeons to create a patient’s plan and assess and balance the joint. This helps surgeons to execute their plan with precision and accuracy.
VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution
The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution adapts to the surgeon’s workflow. It is designed to help surgeons accurately resect bones that align and position the implant relative to the soft tissue during total knee replacement.
The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution help surgeons gather the necessary patient anatomy data to position the implant.
da Vinci Surgical System
The da Vinci Surgical System is an advanced robotic platform designed to enhance the capabilities of surgeons performing minimally invasive procedures. Controlled by a surgeon from a console within the operating room, the system translates the surgeon's hand movements into precise micro-movements of instruments inside the patient's body.
This technology offers a range of benefits including smaller incisions, reduced blood loss and quicker recovery times for patients.
