The scholarship which supports nursing and midwifery caregivers in their professional development, was named in honour of Hawkesbury local Vivienne who was a passionate advocate for health care and dedicated over 54 years to the nursing profession.

Lea, who was encouraged to apply for the scholarship by her nurse unit manager, said she was thrilled to have been announced as one of the scholarship recipients.

“Winning the scholarship means a lot and I feel really privileged to have been chosen,” said Lea.

“It is a great opportunity as I am currently completing a Bachelor in Nursing so the scholarship will certainly take some additional stress off my shoulders.

“It will also help to keep me motivated and stay focused on achieving my goals.

“Aside from that, I am grateful to have the support of St John of God Hawkesbury District Health Service in furthering my learning and enabling me to pursue my career aspirations.”

Lea stated that she enjoys nursing and finds it very rewarding.  Once she completes her nursing degree, she is looking forward to utilising her new knowledge and skills and providing advanced care to her patients.

“I love nursing. Every day is different and as hard as some days get, I work with an amazing group of nurses and nurse unit manager who keep me motivated and focused,” said Lea.

“Hawkesbury is a close knit community and I often get to know my patients very well, which is really special.

“Being able to play a small role in someone’s life, and being able to support them and aid them on their way to recovery is very satisfying.”
