The five pieces of artwork, which focus on the theme of Biami – The Creator Spirit, were the first to feature in the hospital’s new Art Hanging Space.

Director of Mission, Dr Lisa Connell said the artworks were a visual representation of the hospital’s commitment to welcoming and caring for the Aboriginal community.

“We want the Art Hanging Space, and the hospital in general, to be a welcoming and hospitable space for our Aboriginal community, and one which will speak to all who visit without words,” she said.

“Representatives from the local community gathered for many sessions to create the artworks together.”

Each artwork reflects a part of the Biami story, including the creation of the land, the Rainbow Serpent, rivers, waterholes, animals, wildlife and berries.

The local Aboriginal community has generously donated the artwork to the hospital for ongoing display.
