St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals CEO Paul Dyer said over the past 28 months our COVID Clinic has played an important role in supporting the COVID response in Western Australia.

“Our caregivers involved in running the COVID Clinic have done an outstanding job to support patients at our COVID Clinic and I thank them for their commitment and service to the WA community during this time,” he said.

“Our COVID Clinic has undertaken about 107,000 swabs, making it one of the busiest in Perth.”

The Department of Health has decided to close some of the public COVID Clinics with the number of COVID cases declining in Western Australia and Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) being used more often than PCR tests to identify the virus.

Paul said the COVID Clinic team at St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals has included about 30 nurses, security officers, administration support and cleaners.

“The Clinics busiest day was on 1 February 2021, the first day of Perth’s second lockdown, in which 1,163 swabs were undertaken,” he said.

St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals will continue to provide RATs for relevant patients and visitors, but PCRs will no longer be undertaken on site from 15 July.

Two nearby privately-run drive-through COVID Clinics are located at Midland Sports Complex (45 Patterson Drive) and 7 Clayton Street (off Kep Court).

Testing clinics at Royal Perth Hospital, Joondalup Health Campus, Rockingham Hospital and the PathWest public drive through facility in Murdoch will continue to operate between 8am and 8pm on weekdays and from 8am to 4pm on weekends.

Testing also continues to be available through private pathology clinics. PCR testing arrangements in regional areas remain unchanged.

COVID-19 testing clinics are listed on the Department of Health website: www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/COVIDclinics.
