Family ties bring Elle back to Bunbury

The opportunity to work as a dietitian in her home town of Bunbury was one that Elle Huisman could not refuse.

Elle started working at St John of God Bunbury Hospital in January 2022 having moved back to the town from a couple of years in Tasmania.

“I am originally from around Bunbury, I went to school here, and my family’s close by so it was really good opportunity move back,” she said.

I have loved being close to family once again and the work environment here has been amazing, everyone is very supportive.”

Elle said working in the regional private hospital had given her a broad range of clinical experiences.

“It is quite varied but that is part of the reason I am loving working here,” she said.

“I get to see a lot of different inpatients, which keeps me on my toes, as well as working with outpatients. I also get to support oncology patients which I really enjoy.”

Elle said the opportunities also extended to career development.

“In addition to being a supportive and encouraging environment, there is a lot opportunity there to develop your professional your career, for example we are just doing a clinical leadership program which is really enjoyable.”

Elle said her passion for nutrition and dietetics was driven by a love of food.

“Food is really important in people’s lives, everyone eats and it brings people together,” she said.

“Eating well is a really important aspect in preventative health and management of lots of different chronic diseases so it is really interesting area.”
