Located in the suburb of Berwick in south east Melbourne Victoria, we offer comprehensive treatment and care to inpatients and day visitors.
We have a range of facilities to ensure you get the most out of your time with us. We offer psychiatric care for acute mental health and addiction conditions to patients from across south east Melbourne, Gippsland, the Mornington Peninsula and beyond.
Our programs
Our inpatient therapy programs offer a team approach to your care with psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health nurses, and other allied health professionals working with you to help you return to a rewarding and active life.
The same team approach is applied to our group-based mental health day programs, which are designed to develop your skills and external resources so you can address changes and difficulties.
Our community mental health program is delivered by experienced mental health nurses who visit you at home to assist your recovery, prevent relapse and improve your quality of life.
Psychiatrists consult in a private practice in the co-located consulting suites. This enables your general practitioner (GP) to contact an accredited psychiatrist who can provide assessment and, if necessary, refer you for admission to the inpatient units, day or community programs.
Our consultants cover a variety of clinical interests including general psychiatry, mood disorders, depression and anxiety.
Community and social outreach
As a not-for-profit hospital, we reinvest our profits into core areas to support our local community.
Community mental health education
We conduct free mental health workshops aiming to raise awareness and build resilience within our community.
Art for Wellness initiative
We facilitate free community Art for Wellness sessions to promote mental health awareness and creative expression as a tool for wellbeing.
History of St John of God Langmore Centre
In 2022 the original St John of God Berwick Hospital site was reopened as the St John of God Langmore Centre, following a 2019 community engagement campaign.
The new centre, named in honour of Dr Percy Langmore and his son Dr Leonard Langmore, provides specialist community mental health facilities with both inpatient and outpatient services for the fast-growing south east corridor of Melbourne.
In March 2025 we opened the Emergency Services and Defence Trauma Recovery Unit with inpatient and day program support designed to meet the unique needs of emergency services and defence personnel experiencing trauma.
