The pair, who originally come from the Philippines, work in renal care which enables them to form ongoing connections with patients as many need ongoing and long-term support.

“I have worked in a number of places throughout my eight year career so far and I have found that the patients are very warm and very welcoming and they treat us like their own family,” Paulene said.

“Hearing the patients thank us for the care we provide is really uplifting. The positive feedback from patients is one of the main things that makes me want to continue doing my job.”

Danica said being able to support patients during their time of need was important to her.

“For me, I find a lot of personal satisfaction in being able to support people in their time of need and help alleviate some of their sufferings,” she said.

While the pair didn’t move to Bunbury together, their reasons for staying in the region are the same.

Bunbury is a very lovely place with a lot of beautiful scenery and the beaches to enjoy after work,” they both agreed.

“There is a great work and life balance and the hospital offers a warm community which is really supportive.”
