Carlito is now caring for patients and their families undergoing treatment at St John of God Bunbury Hospital’s South West Comprehensive Cancer Centre.

It is a role he describes as enabling him to fulfil his dreams.

“I love helping patients and getting to know them throughout their treatment,” he said.

“Supporting them to get better is something that inspires me everyday.”

Carlito said while the unit is busy, his colleagues support each other well.

“Working with the team of nurses we have here makes everything easier,” he said.

“We all support and help each other to make sure our patients get the highest level of care.

“It is a smaller hospital but that isn’t a hindrance, it means we get to know everyone really well and form strong connections.”

Carlito said his interest in nursing stemmed from a passion for learning.

“Learning doesn’t finish at school. Everyday we get learn about new treatments and learn about our patients and their experiences too,” he said.

“That is what I love about nursing.”
