Two doctors named as finalists in the WA Rural Health Awards 2020

St John of God Bunbury Hospital GP Anaesthetist Dr Ivan Jansz and Palliative Care Physician Dr Carolyn Masarei have been announced a finalists in the WA Rural Health Awards 2020.

Dr Jansz, who also works as a GP in Bunbury and as an anaesthetist at St John of God Bunbury Hospital, is a finalist in the Procedural GP/District Medical Officer of the Year category. St John of God Health Care Dr Ivan Jansz

Dr Masarei is a finalist in the Specialist of the Year award category for the second year running.

“It is wonderful and remarkable to have two doctors from St John of God Bunbury Hospital named as finalists in the state-wide awards and we are proud to have specialists of their calibre caring for patients at our hospital,” St John of God Bunbury Hospital Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Williams said.

“Ivan and Carolyn are both experienced physicians and bring a wealth of knowledge and insights which help us to provide consistently excellent care, and both are heavily involved in training student and junior doctors.”

Dr Jansz was named a finalist in the awards in recognition of his significant contributions to providing anaesthetic care to patients, including pregnant women, at the hospital for more than 15 years.

Since 2004, Dr Jansz has worked at St John of God Bunbury Hospital as well as working as the founding GP at Dalyellup Family Medical Centre. Prior to moving to Bunbury, Dr Jansz worked as a GP in Narrogin from 1991 to 2003 where he provided anaesthesia and obstetric care, and was an examiner for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Masarei was named a finalist in the awards for her role in leading and growing the palliative care service at St John of God Bunbury Hospital, as well as her provision of outreach services, use of telehealth to reach isolated patients and support for local general practitioners and community palliative care services.

Dr Masarei has worked as a palliative care physician at St John of God Bunbury Hospital since 2012. She is also a senior lecturer at the Rural Clinical School of WA.

The award winners will be announced on Saturday 21 March 2020.
