Dr James Williams is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist with dual Fellowship training in Gastroenterology (FRACP) and Addiction Medicine (FAChM). He provides evidence-based care for patients with gastrointestinal and liver conditions, with particular interests in chronic liver disease and high-quality endoscopic surveillance.

He completed specialist training with Eastern Health, Launceston General Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, subsequently undertaking a hepatology fellowship with Eastern Health. Dr Williams currently works as a consultant gastroenterologist at Eastern Health and Western Health.

His clinical practice encompasses general gastroenterology, including bowel cancer screening and surveillance, functional gastrointestinal disorders, coeliac disease, and the investigation of abnormal liver function tests. He has a strong interest in the assessment and longitudinal management of patients with chronic liver disease, including cirrhosis and its complications.

Dr Williams is committed to delivering patient-centred care with an emphasis on clear communication, appropriate investigation, and collaborative management with referring general practitioners.
