A/Prof Hessom Razavi is a consultant ophthalmologist and medical retina sub-specialist who works at the Lions Eye Institute (LEI). He is the Clinic Director for the LEI Midland clinic, where he consults privately, located at the Midland Specialist Centre. Dr Razavi operates at SJOG Midland Hospital (both public and private) and the LEI Nedlands Day Surgery (private).
Hessom completed his medical degree and ophthalmology training in WA, followed by fellowships in Western Australia and Victoria. He was the inaugural Lions Outback Vision Fellow in 2015, providing eye care in remote WA communities. He then undertook a fellowship with Professor Robyn Guymer in Melbourne focusing on retinal diseases and research. Prior to this, Hessom completed a Masters degree at the University of London, for which he received the Gordon Johnson Prize for first academic standing.
Hessom’s research interests include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and Indigenous eye health. He is the unit coordinator for ophthalmology teaching at The University of Western Australia. He is a Director on the Board of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and Director of the Centre of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the LEI.
