Dr. Abilash Musthafa is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) with experience working across public and private mental health services in Australia. He completed his medical training across both India and Australia, undertaking rotations across a broad range of medical surgical and psychiatric specialties, which has provided him with a strong general medical and holistic clinical foundation.

He has worked in acute inpatient psychiatry, community mental health, emergency psychiatry, and psychotherapy settings, providing care to adults with a wide range of psychiatric conditions.

His clinical interests include adult psychiatry, cultural psychiatry, refugee and trauma-related mental health, personality disorders, mood disorders, and psychotic illnesses. Dr. Musthafa is particularly interested in delivering culturally sensitive and trauma-informed care, with an emphasis on understanding each patient within their personal, social, and cultural context.

Over the years, he has gained experience managing complex presentations across diverse populations, including individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. He values collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based care tailored to each person’s individual needs.

Dr. Musthafa believes in a holistic approach to mental health care, recognising the importance of psychological, social, cultural, lifestyle, and biological factors in emotional wellbeing. While medication can play an important role when appropriate, his approach extends beyond symptom management alone, with a focus on comprehensive, person-centred care and long-term wellbeing.

Fluent in English, Malayalam, and Hindi, Dr. Musthafa values culturally sensitive communication and strives to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for patients from diverse communities.
