Associate Professor Raj Gunaratne completed his schooling and medical education in University of Otago, New Zealand in 2011 before embarking on his journey as an orthopaedic surgeon. After moving to Perth, Western Australia, he underwent extensive training and gained invaluable experience in orthopaedic surgery. Meeting his wife during his internship, they now share the joys of parenthood with their two young boys.



Assoc Prof Gunaratne completed his fellowship exams in 2022. With a special interest in robotic and technology-assisted surgery, he leverages cutting edge advancements to achieve precision and optimise patient outcomes. He has also pursued further training in direct anterior approach hip replacement surgery and holds a PhD in the field of robotic surgery.


Drawing from his own experiences as a former state-level soccer player, Assoc Prof Gunaratne understands the importance of an active lifestyle. His passion for sports surgery drives his commitment to safely and efficiently getting athletes back on the field.
