Dr Suran Dhanapala is an interventional pain specialist and specialist anaesthetist with expertise in the assessment and management of acute and chronic pain conditions.
Dr Dhanapala completed his medical degree at the University of Tasmania before undertaking postgraduate training in Queensland at Townsville University Hospital, where he completed comprehensive training in anaesthesia and interventional pain medicine.
He is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) and the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FFPMANZCA).
He also holds the Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP) credential through the World Institute of Pain, recognising advanced knowledge and practical competency in interventional pain medicine.
Dr Dhanapala currently works as a staff specialist in pain medicine and anaesthesia at Ballarat Base Hospital.
His clinical approach focuses on understanding the individual experience and impact of persistent pain, incorporating evidence-based interventional pain management within a comprehensive multidisciplinary model of care.
He recognises the complex physical, psychological and social impacts of chronic pain and works collaboratively to develop individualised treatment strategies aimed at improving function and quality of life.
