Janelle graduated with honours from the University of Melbourne in 1997 and then went on to do further post-graduate surgical training at St. Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne. She completed her training as a general surgeon in 2003 followed by two years of full-time research at St. Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne looking at the molecular biology of metastatic bladder cancer.
She then commenced urology training in 2006 and became a qualified urological surgeon in February 2009. She completed a further fellowship year at North Shore Hospital, Auckland focusing on uro-oncology and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, as well as 3 months on an observership at NYU and Vanderbilt hospitals.
A/Prof Brennan moved to Bendigo in June 2010 and is currently head of Urology at Bendigo Health as well as practicing privately at St. John of God Bendigo Hospital. She was a major driving force to develop robotic surgery in the region and is a fully qualified robotic surgeon performing robotic prostate surgery, upper tract and urogynaecological procedures.
She also works at Monash School of Rural Health as Director of the Northwest Victorian Regional Training Hub with the goal of improving recruitment and retention of doctors in regional and rural Victoria. A/Prof Brennan is also actively involved in research trials and has published over twenty-five research articles. She also sits on the Human Research Ethics Committee of Bendigo Health.
When not working, she tries to play golf, support her beloved Richmond Tigers and spend time with her dogs Dusty and Molly.
