TAVI – caring for you during the whole patient journey

Elderly patients with aortic stenosis – a narrowing of the aortic valve opening – can avoid open heart surgery by having the minimally invasive Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedure.

Symptoms of aortic stenosis include shortness of breath and dizziness.

Being a minimally invasive procedure means that TAVI patients have a fast recovery and are usually home within a couple of days.

At St John of God Subiaco Hospital, the decision to perform a TAVI is made by both a Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Interventional Cardiologists – the added expertise meaning that each patient can be confident that the right procedure has been chosen for their particular case.

TAVI patients receive ongoing personal support, are able to return to normal lives within weeks and our attentive TAVI team is by their side the whole way with information and a direct phone line for support.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital’s TAVI program was established through the generosity of a private donor via the St John of God Foundation.
