Dr Sheldon Moniz is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon with a focus on the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. He provides comprehensive care for patients with upper limb conditions—ranging from injuries and fractures to arthritis, nerve compression, and tendon disorders.
Dr Moniz completed his medical degree at the University of Western Australia and undertook orthopaedic training in WA, gaining fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA). He went on to complete an AOA-accredited fellowship in upper limb and trauma surgery at the Orthopaedic Research Institute of Queensland, followed by further training with leading orthopaedic surgeons in Europe.
His clinical expertise includes:
- Hand and wrist surgery: Carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, tendon and nerve injuries, fractures.
- Elbow and shoulder surgery: Rotator cuff tears, instability, joint replacement, and arthroscopic procedures.
- Sports injuries: Ligament and tendon reconstruction.
- Trauma care: Fractures and workplace injuries.
Dr Moniz values clear communication with patients and referring GPs. He focuses on accurate diagnosis, evidence-based treatment, and personalised surgical planning to ensure the best possible outcomes.
He is also involved in teaching medical students at UWA and contributes to research in surgical innovation, including patient-specific implants, enhanced recovery programs, and the use of robotic and AI-assisted technologies.
Outside of medicine, Dr Moniz enjoys playing music and spending time with his young family.
