Dr Wickrematunga gained her MBBS qualifications to become a medical doctor in Sri Lanka and commenced post graduate studies in psychiatry in Sri Lanka. She completed a post graduate degree MD (Psych) in 2008 and undertook two years of advanced training in Sri Lanka.
Dr Wickrematunga came to Australia in March 2011 and worked as a senior registrar in psychiatry at North Western Mental Health – Melbourne Health until December 2014, after which she commenced employment as a psychiatrist at Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH).
Dr Wickrematunga gained her Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) in 2018 and has continued working as a consultant psychiatrist at LRH and in private practice.
She is an adjunct lecturer at Monash University, accredited for ECT and a trainer of registrars for RANZCP.
