Dr Shanela Sooben

Shanela is a locally trained gastroenterologist known for her compassionate patient care. She earned her medical degree from the University of Notre Dame WA in 2009 and completed advanced gastroenterology training in WA. Her expertise covers various conditions including irritable bowel syndrome, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, bowel cancer screening, coeliac disease, eosinophilic oesophagitis, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal cancers and liver conditions. She did her sub-speciality training in the area of inflammatory bowel disease.

Shanela goes above and beyond to provide personalised care, taking into account the unique circumstances and needs of each patient. She takes a holistic approach to treatment, considering not only the physical aspects of their condition but also their emotional wellbeing.

Beyond clinical practice, Shanela actively contributes to medical education through her active involvement in teaching and mentoring. She also serves on medical advisory committees, where she participates in decision making processes and contributes to the improvement of health care services.

Shanela is fluent in both English and French.
