Dr Ranjan Shrestha is a Respiratory Physician and Interventional Pulmonologist with a special interest in pleural disease and lung cancer. He graduated with Honours in Medicine from Kathmandu University, Nepal, in 2000. After gaining initial clinical experience in the United Kingdom, he moved to Perth, Western Australia in 2006 where he undertook specialist training in respiratory medicine.
Dr Shrestha completed his specialist training in Perth and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2012. He subsequently undertook an additional fellowship year focused on pleural medicine, further developing expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex pleural conditions and interventional pulmonary procedures.
He currently holds consultant appointments at St John of God Murdoch Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital, where he works as a Consultant Physician and Interventional Pulmonologist. He is also the Director of Physician Training (RACP) at St John of God Murdoch Hospital and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Notre Dame University School of Medicine. Dr Shrestha is an RACP-accredited supervisor for both Basic Physician Training and Advanced Training in Respiratory Medicine.
Dr Shrestha maintains active professional memberships with the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ), European Respiratory Society (ERS), World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WABIP), and American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP).
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Shrestha is actively involved in research, clinical trials and medical education. He has participated in national and international clinical trials involving patients with malignant pleural disease, pleural infection, and pneumothorax, and serves as a sub-investigator in clinical trials investigating chronic cough, interstitial lung disease and airway diseases. He is also a Convener and Faculty Member of the Practical Pleural Course at CTEC, UWA, contributing to the education and training of medical professionals in pleural medicine.
Through his clinical, academic, research, and teaching roles, Dr Shrestha is committed to advancing respiratory and pleural medicine while supporting the education and development of the next generation of physicians.
