Dr Briohny Winnett Smith

Dr Briohny Smith is a gastroenterologist who treats patients at St John of God Subiaco Hospital.

Dr Briohny Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Sydney.

She returned home to Perth to complete her basic post-graduate physician training at Royal Perth Hospital.

She then completed her specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology in the Perth Inter-Hospital rotation program shared between Royal Perth Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Fremantle Hospital.

On completion of her specialist training, Dr Smith spent two years at the Storr Liver Unit in Westmead, Sydney researching the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

This research culminated in her PhD through a joint project with the University of Western Australia.

Dr Smith’s clinical interests include all areas of liver disease particularly alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver disease, viral hepatitis and advanced liver disease including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.

She also sees patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal issues including reflux, H. pylori infection, inflammatory bowel disease, Coeliac Disease, irritable bowel disease and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
