Dr Nilu Rathnayake completed her initial medical training in New Zealand and concluded her post graduate training in Australia. She has worked in both public (Alfred/Caulfield Health, Monash Health and Peninsula Health) and private hospitals in metropolitan Melbourne where she acquired wide array of expertise in the areas of neurological disorders, acute brain injury, spinal cord injuries, cardiac/pulmonary, orthopaedic and geriatric rehabilitation.
Her interests include:
• rehabilitation of neurological conditions (movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease)
• cardiac/pulmonary
• orthopaedic rehabilitation
• geriatric rehabilitation/general reconditioning.
• Dr Rathnayake joined St John of God Frankston Hospital in 2014 and she was one of the initial team members in the new rehabilitation unit of St John of God Berwick hospital, when it established in 2018. She is currently involved in both inpatient as well as outpatient rehabilitation programs at St John of God Frankston and Berwick Hospitals.
