Associate Professor Weranja Ranasinghe is a consultant urologist with public and private practice across Melbourne, managing both general urology and complex urologic cancers.
He is the Clinical Lead of GU Oncology Surgery at Monash Health, with subspecialist expertise in prostate, bladder, kidney and testicular cancers, while also providing comprehensive care for common urological conditions including elevated PSA, haematuria, urinary symptoms, benign prostate enlargement, and stone disease.
He combines a high-volume general urology practice with advanced expertise in robotic, laparoscopic, endoscopic and open urological surgery, offering patients both routine urological care and complex cancer management. He has been closely involved in urologic oncology care across the Monash Health network, including Berwick and Casey, helping expand access to specialist cancer care and robotic surgery for patients across Melbourne’s south-eastern growth corridor.
A/Prof Ranasinghe is also the Binational Lead for GU Oncology at the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand, Deputy Director of Urology Research at Cabrini Health, and Associate Professor at Monash University.
He graduated from the University of Bristol (UK) and completed his PhD at the University of Melbourne. Following specialist urology training in Australia (FRACS Urology), he undertook the prestigious Society of Urologic Oncology Fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas, USA—one of the world’s leading cancer centres.
He has extensive experience in robotic prostate and kidney surgery, minimally invasive procedures, and complex oncologic surgery.
He works closely within multidisciplinary cancer teams including medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, and specialist nursing teams to ensure comprehensive treatment planning and coordinated care.
A/Prof Ranasinghe places strong emphasis on continuity of care, working closely with GPs and referring specialists to ensure seamless management from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up.
Urgent referrals are prioritised, with rapid access clinics available for concerning PSA results, haematuria, suspected cancer, and new diagnoses.
He is fluent in English and Sinhala, allowing him to provide care to a broad multicultural community across Melbourne’s eastern and south-eastern suburbs.
Patients can often be seen within one week of referral, with urgent cases accommodated promptly.
