Mr James Plant is an Australian trained orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in hip and knee arthritis, joint replacement including revision surgery, trauma and musculoskeletal oncology.

Mr Plant gained degrees in Medicine and Surgery, as well as an honours degree in Biochemistry at the University of Liverpool in the North West of England.

After working in Chester to complete full General Medical Council registration, Mr Plant moved to New South Wales in 2004, working as a junior doctor at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, with rural postings in Dubbo. In 2010 Mr Plant and his family moved to Perth to complete orthopaedic specialist training.

Having succeeded in gaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015, Mr Plant returned to the United Kingdom (UK) for a 12-month post-training Fellowship at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London. This prestigious Fellowship at a world centre for complex arthroplasty and musculoskeletal tumour surgery provided Mr Plant with further invaluable experience in these areas.

Whilst in the UK Mr Plant also spent time with the arthroplasty team at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Shropshire. This is another centre of excellence of orthopaedic care and education, known the world over.

On returning to Perth, Mr Plant was pleased to join Royal Perth Hospital, having served there for much of his training. He became Head of the Orthopaedic Department at Royal Perth Hospital in September 2019. Dr Plant undertakes his private work at Subiaco Orthopaedics, with regular operating lists at St John of God Subiaco Hospital. Mr Plant also sees patients and operates at Armadale Hospital.
