Dr Samya Lakis is a Fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon. She is an active member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) and RACS, in addition to the Spine Society of Australia (SSA) and the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society (APOS). She graduated with a MBBS from UWA and has experience in diverse surgical specialties prior to proceeding with her orthopaedic surgery training.

Samya was employed in both private and public practice in NSW and ACT and has relocated to her home in WA. She has extensive experience in complex spinal deformity and spinal conditions, adult and paediatric, through Sydney Children’s Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital. She provided on-call through the state adult spine trauma roster, looking after cord injury, trauma, tumour and degenerative pathology.

Post-fellowship advanced training was performed over 2017 and 2018 in sites around Australia and in New Zealand. She gained knowledge and skills in adult trauma, tumour and degenerative spinal conditions, in addition to general paediatric orthopaedics and subspecialty training in paediatric spinal deformity.

Samya’s passion for many years has been education and she actively teaches through all the societies, in addition to education for orthopaedic trainees, paediatricians, GPs and allied health. She is the current lead for Scoliosis Australia, Treasurer and education committee for APOS, and works with the Health Department on the prosthesis list.

Samya’s private practices through Orthosports and Ortho ACT are now closed and she is seeing patients at St John of God Subiaco Hospital. She is consulting from Suite 205 at the McCourt Street clinic. Rooms can be contacted on 08 9381 3933 or [email protected]
