Dr Vineet Kumar graduated from medical school in Kolkata, India, and followed this with post graduate training in psychiatry.
Dr Kumar migrated to Australia in 2012 and worked in various clinical settings across Melbourne including rotation as GP Liaison Registrar, community mental health clinics, inpatient units, emergency mental health, prevention and recovery care services and community care units. In 2018 he attained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP).
Dr Kumar works in both public mental health and private practice. He holds positions of consultant psychiatrist and Director of ECT at Latrobe Regional Hospital, Traralgon.
His academic roles include training psychiatry registrars and medical student, conducting Evidence Based Psychiatry Tutorials and he is an adjunct senior lecturer with Monash University.
Dr Kumar has had more than 20 publications in various peer reviewed journals. His research includes work on a WHO sponsored project aimed at empowering primary care physicians to diagnose and manage psychiatric disorders.
