A/Prof Abe Jacob is a leading colorectal surgeon based in Perth and is the Head of General Surgery at St John of God Murdoch Hospital. He is recognised as a pioneer of robotic colorectal surgery in Western Australia, with expertise in minimally invasive techniques including advanced laparoscopy, TAMIS and robotic-assisted procedures.


A/Prof Jacob completed medical training with Honours at the University of Tasmania, followed by general surgery training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015 before undertaking specialist colorectal fellowships through the Colorectal Surgeons Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Adelaide) and Fiona Stanley Hospital (Perth).


A key leader in surgical innovation, he sits on the Robotic Surgery Steering Committee at St John of God Murdoch Hospital, helping shape the hospital’s robotic program, training pathways, and governance. His work has contributed to establishing WA as a centre of excellence for robotic colorectal surgery.


A/Prof Jacob also holds an academic appointment as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame Australia, where he is actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and junior doctors.


He is strongly committed to equity in cancer care, advocating for improved access to timely, high-quality colorectal cancer services within the public health system. His approach focuses on compassionate care, contemporary surgical practice and multidisciplinary collaboration.
