Associate Professor Richard Grills is a Urological Surgeon with special interest and expertise in minimally invasive surgery especially robotic and laparoscopic surgery, also urological oncology, surgical and non-surgical management of prostate disease state and urinary tract stones.


A graduate of the University of Melbourne in 1991 he obtained his Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ (FRACS) in 2002. He spent a period working in surgical posts in Africa (Zambia and Tanzania) before completing post fellowship training in laparoscopic surgery at The Stepping Hill Hospital in Manchester, UK. He currently works in both public and private practice in Geelong where he is the Director of Urological Surgery and the Director of Robotic Surgery at University Hospital - Geelong, and a senior lecturer at Deakin University.


He conducts yearly Urology aid trips to the Port Vila Central Hospital in Vanuatu where over the last 11 years he has established a local, self-sufficient Urology service. He has a keen interest in surgical training and education. He has been involved over the last 15 years as a trainee supervisor, Training Accreditation & Education Section Chair and is a past Chair of the national Training Board of Urology, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ (RACS). He is a foundation faculty member for a number of RACS education courses.
