A/Prof. Philip Gan moved from Melbourne to Warrnambool in 2002 as a general surgeon and brings well over two decades of specialist experience. He is the Director of General Surgery at Southwest Healthcare Warrnambool.


His particular interest is in minimally invasive surgery, incorporating reduced port, single port, mini-laparoscopy, percutaneous and natural orifice techniques across a broad range of surgical procedures. These include bariatrics, fundoplication, splenectomy, cholecystectomy, colorectal and hernia surgery.


Philip is also a medical device inventor targeting the field of minimally invasive surgery (MIS), and holds patents in multiple territories. He has published and presented internationally through the United States, Europe and Asia on MIS techniques and surgical devices and is an affiliate Associate Professor at the Deakin University School of Medicine.
