Dr Matthew Erickson is an expert in general cardiology, heart failure management, assessment and management of chest pain and coronary angiography and stenting.


He has dual clinical interests in interventional cardiology and echocardiography, with a particular interest in the assessment of ischaemia, management of patients with heart failure, echocardiographic assessment of the heart (including stress and transoesophageal echocardiography) and coronary revascularisation. He is an expert in the radial artery approach for coronary angiography and angioplasty, to improve patient outcomes and comfort.


Matthew graduated medicine from the University of Western Australia. He completed his physician and general cardiology training at Royal Perth Hospital. He completed a Fellowship in Echocardiology at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne. He also completed Fellowships in Interventional Cardiology at both Royal Perth Hospital and Hôpital Haut-Lévêque, Bordeaux, France.


Dr Erickson is a consultant cardiologist at St John of God Murdoch, as well as at Fiona Stanley and Royal Perth Hospital. He is the clinical lead in echocardiology at Fiona Stanley. He has previously consulted in the WA Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant service and held a teaching position as an associate professor with the University of Western Australia’s School of Medicine.


He also has a strong interest in aboriginal health and regularly travels to the Ngaanyatjarra lands to provide visiting cardiology services. He currently consults from our Murdoch and Nedlands rooms.
