Dr Mat Epee is a Perth-based obstetrician, gynaecologist and fertility specialist with more than 25 years’ experience caring for women in Australia and internationally.
Understanding that fertility, pregnancy and reproductive health can be deeply personal, and at times challenging, he takes time to listen, understand each patient’s circumstances and discuss their options before agreeing on a plan together. He values kindness, connection and continuity of care, while using evidence-based medicine and recognising that every patient is different.
Dr Epee has particular expertise in high-risk and complex obstetric surgery, including abnormal placentation and complications associated with previous caesarean sections. He leads the Placenta Accreta Service at King Edward Memorial Hospital.
He provides private obstetric and gynaecological care at St John of God Subiaco Hospital, with his interests including fertility optimisation at advanced reproductive age, infertility following previous uterine surgery and infertility associated with abnormal menstruation.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Epee is involved in medical education, research and clinical innovation. He has facilitated hundreds of workshops on difficult births, published numerous scientific papers and presented at local, national and international conferences. He holds adjunct teaching appointments with the National University of Singapore and Curtin University and is currently the principal investigator on research investigating the cellular origins of placenta accreta. Dr Epee is also Clinical and Educational Lead at the Women and Infants Research Foundation and Chair of the Research Acceleration Awards, supporting research aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of women, infants and families.
Through his clinical practice, research and teaching, Dr Epee aims to provide care that is thoughtful, collaborative and responsive to each patient’s needs, helping them feel informed and supported throughout their care.
